Why Fall Is a Good Time to Look at Your Windows
October is when the Las Vegas Valley finally eases out of the long hot season. The air conditioner runs less, the doors and windows stay open a little more, and for many homeowners it is the first stretch in months when the house feels comfortable enough to really notice what is working and what is not. That makes it a natural moment to walk through your home and take an honest look at your windows, before the cooler nights and then the next summer arrive.
Windows that have been baking in the desert sun all year can show it. If a room always runs warmer than the rest of the house, or the air conditioner seems to work harder near a particular window, the glass and frame are worth a closer look. Fall gives you time to plan a replacement calmly, instead of making a rushed decision in the middle of July.
What to Check Around Your Windows
You do not need any special tools to do a quick check. Spend a few minutes at each window and look for these things:
- Drafts: Hold your hand near the edges of the frame on a breezy day. If you feel moving air, the window is letting conditioned air out and outside air in.
- Hard to open or close: Windows that stick, jam or will not stay latched are showing wear in the frame or the hardware.
- Hot or cold glass: If the glass or frame feels noticeably hot in the afternoon or cold on a winter morning, the window is not doing much to slow heat transfer.
- Fogging or moisture: Cloudiness between panes or moisture that will not clear can point to a window that has reached the end of its useful life.
- Visible wear: Warped, cracked or faded frames and worn seals are easy to spot once you are looking for them.
If a few of these sound familiar, that does not automatically mean every window in the house needs to go. It means a professional should take a look and tell you plainly what makes sense.
What Energy Efficient Replacement Windows Do for a Desert Home
We install energy efficient replacement windows for homes across Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City and North Las Vegas. In a climate where cooling is the big job, a better window helps keep the heat outside where it belongs and the cooled air inside. You can read more about what we install on our replacement windows page, including the options we offer for homes in the valley.
One product we install is the Alside Mezzo vinyl replacement window. If you want to see its features, we have a dedicated Alside Mezzo windows page with the video and brochure. If your project also involves a sliding patio door or an entry door, we can include those in the same estimate. Details are on our patio doors page.
What Happens When You Call for an Estimate
Our estimates are free, and you will not be pressured to sign anything. The owner is the person you talk to, start to finish. We keep our overhead low and aim to pass that along to you, and financing is available if you would like to spread out the cost. Just ask when you call and we will walk you through it.
We are a Nevada licensed contractor, Nevada State Contractors Board license 0095698, and we have been helping homeowners improve their homes for nearly 10 years.
Planning Ahead Before Next Summer
The best time to replace windows is before you urgently need to. If you start the conversation this fall, you can compare options, ask questions and schedule the work without the pressure of a heat wave. By the time the hot months come back, the job can already be done and the house ready for them.
We serve homeowners throughout the valley, including our neighbors on our Henderson and Las Vegas service pages. Call us at (702) 782-7775 or send a message through our contact page to set up a free estimate. We are glad to answer your questions, whether you are ready to replace every window or just want to know where you stand.
